Van Dyck Arabic Bible
The Van Dyck Arabic Bible is widely regarded as the most commonly used Arabic translation in the world. It is divided into two distinct sections known as the Old Testament and the New Testament.
The origins of these designations can be traced back to early Christian theologians who interpreted Paul's second letter to the Corinthians, verse 14:3, as referring to a new covenant. This led to the term "Old Testament" being used to describe the collection of texts known as the Law and the Prophets, which make up the Hebrew Bible. The Old Testament consists of forty-six books, referred to as "Scriptures". Traditionally, these Scriptures are divided into four sections: the Torah (which comprises the five books of Moses), the historical books, the books of the prophets, and the wisdom literature. In contrast, the New Testament consists of twenty-seven books, including the four canonical Gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, fourteen letters by Paul, seven letters by other apostles and disciples, and the Book of Revelation. Each book covers a different thematic range; for example, Genesis is considered narrative in nature, while Leviticus is primarily legislative, and Psalms is categorized as a book of praise.
The Catholic and Orthodox Churches accept an additional group of texts known as the Deuterocanonical books, while Protestant churches align with Judaism in not accepting them.
In addition to its religious significance, it is worth noting that the Bible is not only the oldest continuously circulated book in the world but also the first book ever printed. It boasts an impressive number of ancient manuscripts and holds the distinction of being the most widely read and distributed book in human history. It has been translated into thousands of languages worldwide and has seen billions of copies printed over the past two centuries. Furthermore, it has inspired countless scholarly studies, books, and research projects, and has served as the basis for numerous artistic endeavors, including paintings, musical compositions, poetry, literature, plays, films, and more.
